No matter what happens on a wedding day, the end result is that you’re marrying your best friend, and that’s all that really matters. That’s what I always tell my brides and grooms when there is a chance things might not go exactly as they had been dreaming, and it is the truth…..I believe it wholeheartedly. But come on, who am I kidding? You still are wishing that things will go right and then it is the best feeling ever when they do!! That’s exactly what happened with Merida and John’s wedding day when the forecast was 100% severe thunderstorms all day long…..torrential downpours…..a complete washout. We were all prepared for it and it was looking like it would be exactly that when the skies opened the flood gates right as we were going from the hotel to the venue. I was ready to still try to shoot in the rain as some point in the day, but there was no way we could have gone outside in the deluge that was happening. But then, right as I pulled up to the venue, that 100% became a total lie. A mix of sprinkles and no rain at all happened for the next couple hours and everything went as planned for this awesome couple. Granted, we couldn’t go frolic down to the woods and hang out by the creek like I was hoping because it was a basically a newly formed river running down from the lodge to a swampy mess of a lawn below, but I was still able to take this adorable guy and gal outside for some really sweet photos and we were even able to have the ceremony outside under the venue’s tent.
I knew this wedding was going to be amazing after meeting Merida and John because I could see the attention to detail they both had. All of the beautiful touches they incorporated into their wedding were worth all the effort. It was also such an honor to witness John and Merida’s love as they became husband and wife. John is one of the most supportive and attentive guys I’ve ever seen and Merida…….this girl is a joy to be around and the most adorable thing. She wore a dress with pockets to their engagement session and I was not at all surprised that she chose a super cool lace and striped Melissa Sweet wedding gown….WITH POCKETS!! Ladies, if you want to see me fall absolutely in love with your dress, get one with pockets 🙂
I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to spend a rain soaked wedding day with than Merida and John. They were ready to do whatever it took to have the wedding of their dreams become a reality and the family and friends they had there supporting them and joining in on the efforts to make this wedding go off perfectly were the icing on the cake. Thank you all for such a great day!! Hope you love the photos! Merida I hope you don’t hate me for this, but I LOVE this photo.
