Hi, I'm Lauren! Welcome to my blog! I'm a Maryland wedding and portrait photographer that loves beautiful light and has an obsession with the water. This is my pretty little place to show off all of my most recent photography adventures and the stories behind them. So get comfy and have a look around!

Christmas Cookie Adventure

I made my Grandma happy.  When I told her Christmas Eve that I had baked a whole bunch of cookies for the very first time the day before, she smiled and gave me hug.  I think she gets proud in her Grandma way when I do domestic things like that.  It makes me smile.  🙂  I might sound a little crazy to some of you that I’m making a big deal out of the fact that I baked Christmas cookies, but whatever.   You have to understand that, while my Grandma is an amazing baker and makes THE BEST chocolate chip cookies (I stole a whole container full on Christmas Eve), my Mom……not so much.  My Mom is a great cook and I miss her home cooking so very much, but baking, and cookies especially, was never really her thing.  So I’ve always been worried and just kind of avoided it, thinking I might take after my Mom.  But this year I really wanted to do some different things to get in the Christmas spirit because I feel like in the past few years I’ve let Christmas just slip by……here one day and gone the next.  So I set out in the hope that good baking skills simply skipped a generation and decided to make my first attempt at baking a large quantity of homemade cookies.

I looked up some recipes, decided on 4 different kinds of cookies, made my grocery list, then spent the next like 6 hours of my Christmas Eve Eve (yes, I know, that’s kind of pathetic it took me that long) making cookie deliciousness and photo documenting it along the way.  They may not be the most exciting photos, but I wanted to be able to blog about it so this is what you get.  🙂

I was finally going to have Christmas cookies to put in my cookie jar!

First up were ginger cookies.  Anything rolled in sugar has to be good.

Then malted milk chocolate chip.  They ended up my favorite.

I might have made them a little too big.  Whatevs.Next up…….cranberry coconut chews.  Deeee-licious.  And my Grandma loved them and stole a bunch for herself to keep.  I was proud of myself after that.  🙂

And lastly, chocolate candy cane cookies.  I was maybe the most excited to make these but, sadly, they weren’t very good.  At all.  Which really sucked because they were the most time consuming of all of them.  I don’t what went wrong.  Total bummer.  But they still looked cute!

You had to roll up the dough and then flatten it with something like the bottom of a coffee mug.  Sounds easy enough, but not when every single one stuck to the bottom of the mug.

After baking the cookies, you then dipped the cookie into melted white chocolate and then dipped them into crushed up peppermints.  At least I got to relieve some stress by crushing up the peppermints.

My spread!

After all the cookie making I was left wishing for a Christmas cookie clean-up fairy to come clean up my mess so that I could just stuff myself with cookies and milk.  The fairy never came.
